Boost Outbound Connect Rates with Phone-to-Name Confidence Score

Sales reps waste nearly 30% of their time sorting through bad data. Phone numbers don’t connect, names don’t match, and old records should’ve been filtered out ages ago.

A phone validation solution solves a large part of this problem by confirming a number is formatted correctly, assigned to a carrier, and connected. That’s critical for filtering out dead leads before they hit your dialer. But even a valid, active number doesn’t tell you whether the person who answers is the person you intended to reach. For outbound teams where right party contact matters, that’s where Trestle’s Phone-to-Name Confidence Score adds a layer of affirmation.

How Phone-to-Name Confidence Score Works in Outbound Workflows

When you query a phone number through Trestle’s Caller Identification API, Smart CNAM API, or Reverse Phone API, the response includes a name associated with that number. The Phone-to-Name Confidence Score (ranging from 50-90) tells you how strong that association is.

A score of 70 or above means high confidence that the phone likely belongs to the name returned. A score of 50 means limited signals, so the match is uncertain. Trestle doesn’t return names when confidence falls below 50, which prevents weak matches from cluttering your CRM.

For outbound teams, this translates to a simple prioritization rule: dial high-confidence records first. Whether you’d like that threshold to be higher (only 80+) or lower (60-70 is fine) is your call.

When Phone-To-Name Association Matters Most

Confidence scores help answer the question: How strong is the evidence that this number belongs to the person on record?

Here’s where answering that question can add the most value:

  1. Personalized Outreach: If your reps open calls using the prospect’s name, a mismatch creates higher friction. Higher confidence records give reps more reason to trust the data before leading with personalization.
  2. Service Provider Workflows: When a customer enters their phone number into an intake form, the confidence score can help assess whether the name on file is likely correct before routing them through the next step.
  3. Name-Matching Decisions: If you’re already comparing submitted names against phone records, this score provides a quantifiable threshold instead of treating every match as equal.

Reduce Rep Burnout by Filtering First

Poor data quality alone can waste more of a quarter of a sales rep’s working time. When reps realize mid-dial that the name on record doesn’t match the person who answered, that’s time lost they won’t get back.

Confidence scoring moves that assessment upstream. By deprioritizing records with weaker phone-to-name associations, reps spend less time on mismatched contacts and more time on conversations with higher potential.
