How is this different from the email validation already in Real Contact API?

Real Contact API’s built-in validation confirms an email’s syntax and that its domain exists and accepts mail. Email Age Score Add-on adds a risk dimension on top of that, scoring how long the address has been active, so you can separate established users from newly created or disposable emails. Valid emails and trustworthy emails aren’t the same thing, and age is one of the strongest signals that tells them apart.

Why do we provide a score instead of an email creation date?

Email providers don’t publish creation dates, so an exact age is always an estimate. Email Age Score Add-on measures how long an address has been active and returns that as a 0-100 score. You get one number to filter on instead of an approximate date you’d have to interpret differently for every provider.

What score should I filter on?

A score of 30 or below indicates an email likely tied to fake or fraudulent leads, and we recommend filtering these out of your campaigns or reviewing them against your other signals. A NULL response means the email is invalid, and those should be filtered out as well. Higher scores point to more established, trustworthy addresses you can prioritize for outreach.

Do flagged emails automatically downgrade the Contact Grade?

Yes. When the add-on is enabled, email age factors into the Email Contact Grade. Emails with consistent activity in our network hold their grade, while newly seen emails are downgraded to reflect lower confidence in lead quality. You can gate on the grade instead of parsing the age score separately.

Why isn't this included by default?

Real Contact API serves multiple use cases. Some need deep risk scoring, like signup protection and lead ingestion, and some don’t, like caller verification and general contact lookup. The Add-on pattern lets you pay for the scoring depth you actually need rather than paying more on every call.
