Phone-to-Address Match compares the phone subscriber’s location to the address you have on record, so you can confirm who the person is and where they are. The attribute is available within Real Contact API for enterprise customers who need an additional layer of identity verification.
What is Phone-to-Address Match? #
Phone-to-Address Match enables location-level matching by comparing phone owner location to the provided address. The input can be a full address or a partial one; just city, state, or postal code is enough to return a match signal. We check the input address against both current and historical addresses associated with the phone subscriber.
Example Scenario:
- Input Name: John Smith
- Input Address: Seattle
- Phone Subscriber Record: John Smith, Bellevue, WA
- Standard Real Contact API Response: Returns name_match: true but no signal on whether the phone subscriber and the lead’s stated location actually align.
- With Phone-to-Address Match: Returns address_match: “Metro Match,” confirming you have the phone of John Smith from the Seattle area and not somewhere else.
How do I interpret each value? #
Phone-to-Address Match is returned as the address_match field within the phone object in the Real Contact API response. It returns one of the following values:
| Response | Description |
| Full Match | The phone subscriber’s location matches the full input address. |
| Street Match | The street-level address matches. |
| Postal Match | The postal code matches. |
| City State Match | The city and state match. |
| Metro Match | The metro area matches. |
| No Match | The phone subscriber’s location does not match the input address. |
| null | No match could be performed. This happens when the phone is not provided, the phone record is opted out, the phone-to-name match is false, or the matched subscriber has no current addresses available. |
Note: Phone-to-Address Match does not affect the phone contact grade. Contact grading reflects whether the phone is connected and whether you’re reaching the right person. It’s a separate signal from location consistency.
What are the benefits of Phone-to-Address Match? #
Avoiding “Right Name, Wrong Person” Scenarios
Multiple people share names across different cities. Phone-to-Address Match adds a location signal that helps confirm you’re working with the right individual, not just a name that happens to match.
Stronger B2B Contact Data Verification
When verifying business contacts at scale, name and phone alone aren’t always enough. Confirming the phone subscriber’s location aligns with the lead’s geography adds another check to your data validation workflow.
Better Lead Routing and Prioritization
If your sales team is divided by territory, branch, or market, Phone-to-Address Match helps confirm leads are routed to the right rep based on consistent location signals.
Recruiting Fraud Detection
Applicants whose name and phone appear valid but whose stated location doesn’t line up with the phone subscriber’s location are worth a closer look. This attribute adds another signal to your screening workflow.
Signup and Onboarding Consistency Checks
Use Phone-to-Address Match alongside IP and name signals to detect mismatches during account creation. The more identity attributes that line up, the more confidence you have in the signup.
Works with Partial Address Data
You don’t need a full street address to get value out of this check. City, state, or postal-only inputs still return useful match signals, which is especially helpful when lead data comes from sources where full addresses aren’t always available.
Strengthens Overall Real Contact API Signal
When the phone, name, address, and IP all tell a consistent story, you have a stronger picture of identity legitimacy. Phone-to-Address Match is one more layer in that picture.
How does this interact with Address-to-Name Match? #
Phone-to-Address Match and Address-to-Name Match are separate checks that answer different questions.
- Address-to-Name Match: Is the input name associated with the input address?
- Phone-to-Address Match: Is the phone subscriber’s location consistent with the input address?
Address-to-Name Match logic is unchanged. If a partial address is provided, no address-to-name match will happen, and address.is_valid will return false. Phone-to-Address Match, on the other hand, will still return a match signal on partial address inputs.
How do I enable Phone-to-Address Match? #
Phone-to-Address Match is available with Real Contact API at no additional cost.
