In a previous article, we described how to read our 0-100 phone activity score and identify connected/disconnected phone numbers that available through Phone Validation API and Real Contact API. A score of 100 means consistent activity in the last 12 months, while a score of 0 means a disconnected number or no consistent activity in the past 12 months.
A few additional questions that customers ask are:
- How is this score calculated, what does ‘consistent’ activity mean, and how does ‘inconsistent’ behavior impact the score and to what extent?
- How much activity corresponds to a score of 100 or how much/how long of inactivity corresponds to a score of 30 or below?
- At what point or how much inactivity will the activity score drop to 30 or below?
The short answer is it depends on variables with different weights that go into our model to decide the activity score. On a basic level, consistent activity means we see enough signals monthly that this phone is active and in use. If we do not get any signal for a month or so, the score will start dropping for the phone number. However, it doesn’t mean that one activity signal will immediately take the score from 30 to 100. The model looks at the velocity and frequency of the phone activity to impact the score with appropriate weightings that we have trained and iterated over.
Additionally, the model considers other variables beyond phone activity, like phone carrier, line type, linkage data, etc., to influence the score. For example, if we do not see any activity for a short time, but there is no carrier associated with that phone, it has a huge impact on the score, dropping it to 30 or below very quickly. Another example is if the line type is non-fixed VoIP, especially with no owner name linkage. The model puts a lot of weight on it and impacts the score negatively and at a fast rate. That demonstrates the variables and weights considered by our model and how it impacts the score calculations.
We hope this provides more visibility on how we have built the phone activity score to help businesses identify connected/disconnected phone numbers, optimize their calling strategies, or weed out junk numbers. If you have any other questions, let us know via email@example.com.
