RocketReach Makes Phone Numbers 2x More Likely to Connect with Phone Validation API and Real Contact API
Overview
RocketReach is a sales and lead intelligence platform that helps more than 30 million users find accurate contact and company data. With hundreds of millions of phone numbers in their database, their team needed a better way to confirm which numbers were active and actually belonged to the right person. After testing 10+ verification providers, RocketReach chose Trestle’s Phone Validation API for global validation and line type and Real Contact API for identity matching. The Challenge
Phone data has always been critical to RocketReach, but most phone verification solutions only solved part of the problem. A provider might confirm a number was an active landline while offering little to no information about who owned it. That left users to decide on their own whether the number was worth calling.
Stale data was another major issue. Many providers relied on a number’s original carrier assignment, so a landline later ported to a mobile phone still showed up as a landline. Providers also often disagreed on whether the same number was valid.
Without a reliable way to verify phone data, RocketReach users faced wasted calls and lower connect rates. RocketReach also needed a partner that could verify 190 million numbers upfront, then verify new numbers in real-time during live lookups without adding latency.
The Solution
To find the right verification partner, RocketReach built multiple test datasets with known outcomes. Using its Data Co-op of nearly 1.5 million active members, the team created a sample of known valid phone numbers alongside separate datasets of known invalid numbers, with a mix of geographies and line types. Each provider was measured on phone validity, line type accuracy, and identity matching.
After months of testing, Trestle consistently performed at the top, delivering the strongest overall combination of phone validity, line type accuracy, identity matching, global coverage, and scalability.
RocketReach now uses Real Contact API and Phone Validation API to verify 100% of its new and existing phone numbers, in addition to its in-house verification tools:
- Real Contact API extends RocketReach’s identity matching to phone data. Identity matching is one of the key signals behind RocketReach’s A, A-, and B confidence grades.
- Phone Validation API adds global coverage, so RocketReach can validate international numbers and assign accurate line types for mobile, direct dial, office, and other phones.
The Trestle team helped RocketReach plan how to use each API and also helped scale the initial rollout so RocketReach could verify their full phone number database in under two weeks.
