Strengthen Inbound Routing with Phone-to-Name Confidence Score
When customers enter their phone number into a locator, intake form, or self-service portal, you’re making an assumption that the person on the other end is who they say they are. Most of the time, that assumption holds. But when it doesn’t, the consequences can ripple downstream, resulting in misrouted service requests, failed verifications, frustrated customers, and wasted follow-up.
Our Phone-to-Name Confidence Score helps you assess match strength before the customer moves forward.
How Phone-to-Name Confidence Score Works in Inbound Workflows
When a user submits their phone number, you can query Trestle’s Caller Identification API, Reverse Phone API, or Smart CNAM API to retrieve the name associated with that number. When enabled, the response will include a Phone-to-Name Confidence Score ranging from 50 to 90, indicating the strength of the association.
| Score | What It Means |
| >70 | High confidence that the phone belongs to the name returned |
| 60 | Medium confidence |
| 50 | Limited signals to confirm the association |
Trestle doesn’t return names when confidence falls below 50, which prevents weak or unreliable matches from entering your workflow.
For inbound routing, high-confidence matches could proceed automatically, while lower-confidence submissions get flagged for additional verification or manual review.
Why This Matters for Self-Service Flows
Many self-service workflows and intake forms combine phone numbers with other inputs (zip code, address, or account number) to route customers correctly. Phone-to-name association adds another layer of validation to these processes.
Imagine a scenario where customers enter their phone number to complete a new customer form, or authorize a transaction. If the name associated with that phone matches what you have on file (and the confidence score supports it), you can route them through the workflow with less friction. If the score is low or the name doesn’t match, you can prompt for additional verification before proceeding.
This is especially relevant for workflows where accurate identification matters, like customer portals with personalized information or intake forms that feed into CRM or fulfillment systems. Any process where routing decisions depend on knowing who’s on the other end can benefit from Phone-to-Name Confidence Scores.
