Meet the Team: Sakshi Tundwal
Tell us a little bit about yourself, background, and role. How did you land here?
My name is Sakshi Tundwal, and I’m a Software Engineer here at Trestle. I completed my Bachelor’s degree at the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi, where I majored in Mechanical Engineering. Although my core background was in mechanical engineering, I developed a strong interest in software development during my college years.
What started as curiosity gradually turned into passion. I worked on various projects at BHU, continuously building my skills and exploring different areas of software engineering. That journey eventually led me to Trestle in July 2024 through a referral.
I currently work as a Backend Engineer, where I focus on designing, building, and optimizing scalable backend systems.
What does your daily routine look like?
My daily routine primarily involves coding, testing, and collaborating with fellow developers. I usually start my day by reviewing my tasks and prioritizing them based on project deadlines and team goals.
A significant part of my day goes into writing and refining code while ensuring it meets our quality and performance standards. I’m also actively exploring how emerging technologies, especially AI, can help optimize workflows and improve system efficiency.
Beyond coding, my day often includes discussing system designs, brainstorming solutions, implementing new features, and collaborating closely with the team to ensure smooth delivery.
What excites you most about Trestle?
The ownership and trust we are given is what excites me the most about Trestle. Being part of a fast-moving team means we get to work on impactful features and real-world challenges. The ability to contribute, learn, and see the impact of our work keeps me motivated every day.
What Trestle value do you relate to the most?
The Trestle value I relate to most is “Figure It Out.” In a startup environment, challenges are inevitable. It could be technical complexities, design trade-offs, performance bottlenecks, unexpected edge cases. What stands out at Trestle is that we never step back from these challenges. Instead, we approach them with curiosity, collaboration, and determination.
I strongly resonate with this mindset. Whenever I face a problem, I see it as something to break down, understand, and solve no matter how complex it may seem initially. This attitude helps in delivering better solutions and accelerating my own personal growth.
I believe the “Figure It Out” culture encourages ownership, resilience, and teamwork. That’s something I truly value.
What’s one surprising thing that helps you do your best work?
I’m someone who naturally gives 110% to whatever I do. For every task I begin, I focus deeply on quality and completeness.
One slightly surprising thing about me is that if something is left unfinished, it stays on my mind until I solve it. I genuinely find it hard to “switch off” from an unresolved problem. While it can be intense at times, it pushes me to think deeply and ensures I don’t settle for half-done work. That sense of ownership and persistence helps me consistently deliver my best.
What’s a topic you could give a 5-minute impromptu talk about?
I could easily give a 5-minute impromptu talk on how to transition from a non-computer science background to software engineering. I love sharing what worked for me, how to build strong fundamentals, and how consistency and curiosity matter more than your original degree.
I could also talk about how AI can be practically integrated into backend systems to optimize workflows and improve efficiency, especially in a startup environment.
